HOLIDAY SONGS
At the beginning of the month, we decided to get into the holiday spirit, so the first week’s theme was Famous Holiday Songs. We were looking at the vocabulary from different holiday songs.

BAD CHRISTMAS JOKES
That was the second week of holiday-related posts, and we were celebrating the season with a week of Holiday Jokes. One of the more difficult things to do in your second language is tell and understand jokes (no matter how good or bad they are).

WORD OF THE YEAR
We were looking at the Word of the Year for the past five years. Each year, Oxford Dictionaries announces the Word of the Year. This is a word or expression that (according to Oxford Dictionaries) “has attracted a great deal of interest over the last 12 months.” The word reflects the events or the emotions of the year.

We thought it would be fun to look at previous winners.

Hello!

¿Os perdisteis alguna de las Daily Vitamin de octubre? Hoy os dejamos la lista de todas las lecciones publicadas. Y, al final del post, link al activity pack descargable.

PHRASAL VERBS FOR BUSINESS
We hope you can use these phrasal verbs at work, but you will also see that they can be used outside of the office.

BULATS READING, PART 1, SECTION 4
You do not have to be studying for the BULATS to benefit from this week’s lessons: they are gap exercises that test your vocabulary.

VERB + PREPOSITION
Students so often say that they have issues with prepositions. We are focusing on Verb + Preposition Combinations.

OFTEN CONFUSED WORDS
We are concentrating on words that are often confused in English. We are presenting words that are very similar, which is why they are often confused. Sometimes the words sound the same; sometimes they are spelled similarly but are pronounced differently and have different meanings.

HALLOWEEN VOCABULARY
Halloween is a holiday that is celebrated in different ways in different countries.

Y para repasar, podéis descargar el ACTIVITY PACK AQUÍ.

English Daily Vitamin (September 2018)

daily_vitamin_2016

Hello!

Hoy os dejamos el primer resumen de lecciones de la Daily Vitamin del año. ¡Empezamos con septiembre! If you missed a lesson, click on the relevant link below:

SPOT THE ERROR
Each day we are giving you a sentence in English and you must decide if the sentence is correct or not; if is it not correct, tell us what the mistake in the sentence is.

THE ADVERB EVEN
We are looking at different uses of the adverb EVEN.

BRITISH VS. AMERICAN ENGLISH
We are looking at some vocabulary differences between standard British and American English. It is common to have different words to describe the same thing in different dialects. One is not more or less correct, but it’s best to use the word that corresponds to the dialect of the place that you are in, to avoid miscommunication. You know the saying, “when in Rome, do as the Romans do.”

Finalmente, ya tenemos disponible el pack de actividades de lecciones de julio y septiembre. Lo podéis descargar AQUÍ.

NEGOTIATION LANGUAGE
When negotiating, it’s common to use this pattern: (1) Show your understanding of a person; (2) Show (politely) that you disagree with this person; (3) Make a new offer that works for both people.

Each day, we focus on the language needed for this type of conversation

 PRESENT PERFECT
We have looked at Present Perfect several times because this is a tense many students have questions about. Each day of this week, we will look at a different way we use the Present Perfect.

 USEFUL ACRONYMS
An acronym is a word made from the first letters of other words. For example, EU is an acronym for the European Union, UK is the acronym for the United Kingdom and USA is the acronym for the United States of America.

THE MODAL MUST
We are looking at the modal MUST and the many ways we use this modal.

ACTIVITY PACK. Wearing nothing new

Designer Jessi Arrington packed nothing for TEDActive but 7 pairs of undies, buying the rest of her clothes in thrift stores around LA. It’s a meditation on conscious consumption — wrapped in a rainbow of color and creativity.
